It's hard to tell what's going on in this gameplay trailer for Gnomium, but it looks like fun.

The video shows off elements of match-3 and word puzzles, all wrapped up in a cartoony mining theme. Words are like valuable resources in an ever-stacking grid of letters, coins, and mysterious power-ups.

A description of the gameplay on the game's TouchArcade thread make the goals a little more clear.

Gnomium has players striking at chains of words that contain certain elements. Tiles and chains of tiles can be slid around so you can combine coins. Three bronze coins in a row make a silver, three silver make a gold, etc.

Gnomium is created by Chris Crabtree and the artist behind Tiny Thief, Roland Vinh. It'll be free to play, ad-supported with "some in-app currency purchasing options."
Beta testing starts within the next few months. Thanks, TouchArcade.
