Updated on October 30th, at 10:44: Backflip Studios has informed us that the connection issues detailed below were caused by Google App Engine, which suffered an outage late last week.

Backflip uses the cloud-based Google App Engine to store user and game data.

Original story follows...

Backflip Studios, the developer behind the rather excellent (and extremely popular) DragonVale, has recently released a new free-to-play title called Gizmonauts.

Unfortunately, according to plenty of App Store reviews, the game simply doesn't work.

"Frequently doesn't load, fails to connect with server," one comment reads. "Fail fail fail!!!! Doesn't load," another reviewer states.

It worked fine on our iPhone - are you having trouble? Leave us a note in the comments below.

When it does work, Gizmonauts is a collect-'em-up that tasks you with gathering "tons" of robots. You then have to customise them with gizmos and attachments, and pitt them against other bots in fierce battles.

Gizmonauts is available as a Universal app for free. If you must spend some cash, though, you can grab packs of the game's premium currency through in-app purchases.
