Garfield Chef: Game of Food - The eternal darkness is coming and this is its harbinger

There's a new Garfield game out. It's a match-three puzzler. There is almost no joy involved in it what-so-ever. It is a void of fun. A barren waste of an idea.

You match things and make lasagne. There is an energy system, and a load of power-ups that do nothing to stave off the existential dread that will fill your bones with each meaningless connection of items.

Mechanically it is perfectly sound, because it is built from the hollowed out carcasses of a thousand other match-three puzzlers. It wears their skin. It looks at you with their dissolving eyes.

The jokes are like howls in the dead of night. There are cards to collect and each seems to be marked with the date of your demise. The bright colours make me feel queasy, like there is no good left in the world.

You can do better.

Harry used to be really good at Snake on the Nokia 5110. Apparently though, digital snake wrangling isn't a proper job, so now he writes words about games instead.
