Like yourself, we've been following the rumours around the internet that Gameloft is currently working on an iPhone adaptation of the DS phenomenon,
GTA: Chinatown Wars.So we decided to get in touch with Gameloft and ask what's the dealio. The mobile powerhouse confirmed that
GTA: Chinatown Wars for the iPhone is indeed a hoax, started on the
TouchArcade forums.
But these rumours extend a little bit further, and suggest that Gameloft might actually be working on a similar style of crime sim game. Being as it's clearly not going to be
GTA: Chinatown Wars, that really only leaves one possibility:
Gangstar.
The
mobile game (and its
sequel) have gone down a storm, and provide plenty of hard action crime fodder in a similar vein to the DS game, only Gameloft wouldn't have to split the profits of this one with any licensors.
So that's our summer release prediction for the iPhone's crime simulator fans:
Gangstar iPhone coming from Gameloft. Watch this space.

Its not a hoax, gameloft is just not the creator of it. Chinatown wars already came out for psp an ds and according to the website the ipod/iphone version is comming soon. Anyway they would be crazy not to give that game out on ipod/iphone. It has the graphics of the psp(only with higher frame rate) and the touchscreen of the ds so its just perfect.

Not a hoax. Rockstar has the iPhone version mentioned in big shiny letters on their website.

gameloft is currently working on 3d version on gangster for symbian and most prob. for iphone too.

Well, I guess it could be for the 3G S in so much as all games will be for both iPhones - at least for the remainder of this year, I reckon. But not specifically and exclusively for the 3G S.
