Every week on Thursday, we liked to round-up the best games that have just been released for iOS and Android. Why do we like to do that? Well for one thing, Thursday is the day when most new games come out on mobile. And for another, we like to make sure that you, our lovely readers, only play the very best games on your phones and tablets. Hence, we only tell you about the finest new games - because the others aren't worth your precious time.

This week we've got more golf, we've got a really smart card game, and a platformer that plays by its own rules. If that wasn't enough there's also a comedy game about astrology. Basically there's something for everyone here, so long as you're into one or more of those things.

We've included download links so you can quickly grab whichever game tickles your fancy. And we've stuck some review links in there too, because we want to make sure that every moment you spend on Pocket Gamer is one that's chock full of information. And also it's our job.

If you think we've missed a game, or if you strongly agree with everything we've said and you'd like to tell us, then feel free to do so in the comments section at the bottom of the article. Or leave one of the new reaction emoji things, then we'll know what you feel without you even having to type anything. Now that's modernity.

Don't forget to click here to bookmark our games of the week hub - that way you'll be able to find out first what the best new releases for mobile are. I think that covers everything, so let's get on with the list, shall we?

It might not bear the Super Stickman Golf moniker anymore, but this newest entry in the series is one of the best multiplayer games we've played in a very long time. So good that we gave it a Gold Award when we reviewed it - and trust us, those things do not grow on trees.

The game is a four player multiplayer battle to the hole, and it manages to make every second you're playing super exciting. Whether you're on the verge of defeat or at the edge of a superb victory, there's always something waiting to happen to change things - and quite frankly, it's brilliant.

This one's a gloopy platformer that sees you twanging a little creature from point to point. At its heart it's a platformer, and it wears that heart on its sleeve. There are moving platforms, spikes you can't touch, and plenty more obstacles to try and make your way through.

The simple controls mean the game's all about timing rather than complex inputs, and the simple art style is going to keep you entertained and engaged. There's a delightful solidity to the game as well, and you'll always be pushing on for another try.

Astrologaster

Set in England after the Black Death, this one might sound a bit gloomy, but it's actually a pretty funny mixture of a narrative game and a choose your own adventure book. It's got a really unique art-style, and it manages to make its subject matter smile-worthy, even though its subject matter is death and quackery.

You're choosing which star sign to use to treat your patients, which is tougher than it sounds. Get it wrong and your reputation goes down and you're less likely to see the patient back again. Possibly because they're dead. It's fun, it's surprisingly flighty, and you should definitely check it out.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

We'll be honest, we didn't expect this one to make it into this list, but it's actually a really smart side-on action platformer with some clever concessions that make it brilliant on mobile. You're playing Eggsy, a spy from the films, and it's up to you to save the world.

There's sneaking, stabbing, really cool bullet-time-ish shooting, and more to get your teeth into here. It's a little fiddly sometimes, but as movie tie-ins go, it's definitely among the best we've seen. And it captures the gory glee of the films pretty darn well.

Spellsword Cards: Origins

A solo card game that sees you delving into a series of dungeons, dank places, and horrid forests in order to kill everything that moves and nick their loot. There's plenty of roguelike twists here, and if you don't complete the game in a single sitting you're kicked back to the start to pick a new character, class, and race.

You'll dive straight back in though, because the simple card tactics on play here are super addictive. There's a drive to see what the game has to offer, and to take down the tough bosses that come in later in the experience.
