Mobile gaming behemoth Gameloft has announced that it has reached 10 million downloads on Apple’s App Store service.

The feat is all the more impressive considering it has been achieved over just 18 months, with the App Store only being launched in July 2008. That's an average of 18,215 Gameloft game downloads a day.

Among the 55 Gameloft titles available for iPhone, strong holiday sales of the Halo-esque N.O.V.A.: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance and film tie-in James Cameron’s Avatar are said to have pushed sales through the magical 10 million barrier.

Other titles such as Driver, Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X, Asphalt 5, The Settlers, Skater Nation and Shrek Kart were also decent performers towards the end of 2009.

“We have had a remarkable year on the App Store,” said Gameloft CEO Michel Guillemot, “Our success is defined not only by great production values, but a vested interest in bringing to market games that are commercially friendly and appeal to a mass consumer base. Taking into account that the App Store is only 18 months old, ten million paid downloads is an achievement we are quite proud of.”
