Brothers in Arms: Hour of Heroes and Heroes of Sparta battling their way onto iPhone

The Guardian Gamesblog has just reported on its first look at Gameloft's current iPhone game catalogue, with two forthcoming titles capturing our attention in particular.

First is a new take on the popular console franchise, Brothers in Arms. The first iPhone iteration of the WWII shooter franchise, entitled Hour of Heroes, will feature tank and jeep action as well as the expected on-foot combat. Using touchscreen controls, Hour of Heroes apparently automates actions such as vaulting over obstacles and ducking for cover.

Judging by the screenshot, this promises to be one of the first third-person shooters to make it onto the iPhone, and definitely looks to fit in with its console brethren.

Also of particular note is Hero of Sparta (note: we initially reported it as Heroes of Sparta but have since found out this is incorrect) – pegged as a God of War-like fighting game. The mythological hack 'n' slash will also work in a third-person perspective with contextual onscreen controls such as defend, attack, change weapons and more depending on circumstances. It also promises combo attacks, with unique 'finishing' moves if timed properly.

Kroll certainly proved the iPhone's ability to run a good, detailed and atmospheric fighter, so Hero of Sparta is going straight to the top of our girly-scream excited list. Watch this space for more info as we get it.

Nice work, Guardians. Eep!

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
