Best new iOS and Android games this week: One More Jump, Samorost 3, and more
|

Well another week has flown by. Do you remember anything you did? I don't, because I've been so busy playing all of the best mobile games and not having any sleep.

That's the level of commitment we put into things here on Pocket Gamer, even if we're just popping our head round the corner to see what's going on and then scuttling back into the darkness.

This week has seen some pretty big releases on both iOS and Android, so rather than puffing out this preamble to hit my word count, I'm just going to jump straight into telling you all about them.

Top iOS games of the week One More Jump
By SMG Studio - Download on iOS

Sure, it might look like a throwaway arcade blast, but there's actually a good deal of meat on the one-touch bones of this challenging platformer.

It starts off easy, but pretty soon you'll be tapping your phone frantically to try and avoid the obstacles it hurls in your path.

There's a neat progression system, plenty of levels, and the monetisation is smart enough that it won't annoy you. Seriously, give this one a try.

Samorost 3
By Amanita Design - Buy on iOS

One of the finest adventure games has finally made it to iOS. It's a beautiful experience that everyone should get their mucky fingers on.

It's whimsical, non-verbal, and pushes you to explore and figure things out for yourself. Also it looks stunning. Seriously, someone give Amanita more awards.

There are puzzles to solve, things to look at and go “ooh” at. And it's surprisingly challenging too, like all the best games should be.

Lumines: Puzzle and Magic
By Mobcast Global - Buy on iOS

A game that doesn't really need any introduction. I mean I'm giving it one anyway, because otheriwse this entry would be shorter than the others.

A clever mix of Tetris and some smashing techno beats, this latest version of Lumines is every bit as shiny and delightful as its predecessors.

Clear blocks, listen to songs, and make more music as you get deeper into the game. It's a wonderful way to spend a few banging hours.

Bluk
By Pixel Ape Studios - Buy on iOS

A game about jumping about. There's more to it than that, but that's the basics. I'm just easing you into things, so you don't get scared.

You draw an arc on the screen to send your little blob bouncing around. Land on a pillar and everything's good, fall off a pillar and everything's bad.

The game throws in new twists on a pretty regular basis as well, so there's always something going on to keep you on your toes.

Top Android games of the week Siralim 2
By Thylacine Studios – Buy on Android

A retro tinged monster collector that takes a bunch of ideas from some of the best RPGs of recent times and then rolls them all up in chunky pixel graphics.

There's a lot to do here, with 500 creatures to find and customise and use to smash other creature's faces into pixely mush.

You can even breed your monstrous pets, if you're into that sort of thing. A game for those with a flair for the fantastical.

Tappymon
By Mediasoft Entertainment – Download on Android

I mean, just look at it. It's so cute. How could you not want to poke literally every part of this game? And maybe tickle some of it as well? I don't honestly know.

Apart from being gorgeous, it's also essentially a virtual pet. You need to look after your cutesy wootsy monsters so they don't die. Don't let them die, please.

And you can fight against other monsters too. In what are almost certainly going to be the cuuuuuutest fights the world has ever seen. So cute. Much cute. Cute cute cute.

The Tale of Doris and the Dragon
By Arrogant Pixel - Buy on Android

An old woman and a dragon go on an adventure. With a shopping cart. I mean if you're not sold right there I don't know what's wrong with you.

This is an old school pointy clicker without any discernible twist. It's funny, it's a bit weird, and it's decidedly rough around the edges.

But if you like trying to figure out which things in your inventory you need to combine with each other to solve a puzzle then you're going to love it.

Enyo
By Tiny Touch Tale - Download on Android

A pretty looking roguelike with a twist. Instead of slashing your foes to bits, here you're dragging them to their death with a chain. Yay! Chain death!

This adds a different dimension to the usual roguelike tactics. It's all about positioning, pushing, and pulling. Like a night in a club.

The game is free to download with an IAP to get rid of the ads and unlock some extra bits. Why not have a go, you know you want to.
