iOS and Android Game of the Week - your vote needed

Your favourite game needs you
Product: Game of the Week | Publisher: Steel Media
Game of the Week iPhone, thumbnail 1
Each week, thousands of new games hit the iOS App Store and Google Play on Android. Trying to separate the good from the bad (and the ugly) is a tough job, and no mistake.

We like to think that we do a rather good job of it with our news articles, mid-week round-ups, reviews, and features, mind.

But, we want to know what you think.

Today, we're asking you to pick the best game that was released on iOS and Android this week (from some nominations), and then we'll present that winner in an article next Monday.

There are loads of places to vote. Leave a comment on this article, reply to our Game of the Week tweet, leave a comment on Facebook, or just scream it into the void.

The nominations

Borderlands Legends (iPhone, iPad)

A top-down, strategically slanted interpretation of the popular home console franchise. Defend your squad's position against waves of advancing enemies, collecting cash as you go.

Arc Squadron
(iPhone, iPad)

Psyonix has cooked up this StarFox-inspired sci-fi shooter for your consideration. String attacks together for high scores, and do the occasional barrel roll.

Nutty Fluffies (iPhone, iPad)

This time out, the MotoHeroz dev puts us in control of a roller coaster staffed by fluffy toys. Collecting all the hearts while keeping your carriage on the tracks is the key to success here.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (iPhone, iPad, Android)

You know the score: drive a number of licensed cars through cities at ridiculously high speeds, and try not to get caught by the cops. Speed. You need it. Yes, you do.

Madden NFL 13 Social
(iPhone, iPad)

Madden goes turn-based in this free-to-play social title. Play against Facebook friends and other iOS players in short bursts or long stints at your convenience. My money's on United. Oh.

(iPhone, iPad)

Help this huge-hootered hero escape the sneeze cloud in this side-scrolling platformer. Run, jump, run, jump, run, and sneeze your way through 60 pepper-packed levels. Aitchoo.

(iPhone, iPad)

Fulfil your true calling as an alien pizza delivery boy in this cute 3D platformer from Bulkypix. Upgrade your flying saucer, and move fast to keep your intergalactic customers happy.

iBomber Attack (iPhone, iPad)

Take control of a tank in this top-down military shooter. Roll around Europe over 24 missions and launch a rocket at anyone who forgets to call your 'sir'.

It surprises me so many people are voting for NFS. That game is the poster child for bogus IAP shenanigans in games even after you've paid for them, and we're not talking about a 79p game here either. People seem to have no problem grinding their head against walls, but dare add DLC IAP to a game and people scream their heads off that it should be free... sigh.

My vote is for ARC Squadron. It's great to play another Star Fox finally:) The game's not perfect, but it's still good fun and trumps the other big named releases this week.

(That's what I get for trying to post from my iPhone:)(

Not really understanding the rave reviews about Arc Squadron. Been playing it for a bit and its nice to have something like that for mobile, but I found the gameplay average

My vote is for NFS:Most Wanted. Easily one of the best racers I've played on iOS and definitely better than the other NFS games.

I would have to say ARC Squadron. The Need for Speed games are still among the best racers on iOS (and now, the other best racers are developed by the same group, so they have a firm monopoly on the racing market), and NFS: MW definitely has a level of polish that surpasses just about every game on the market and makes it a strong contender here, but it loses to ARC Squadron in the one place it matters: ARC Squadron is just more FUN. Small complaints with the control scheme aside (my thumb occasionally obscures the screen, and Apple TV lags a bit if I try to work around it that way), ARC Squadron's control scheme and level design force the player to action, the control scheme does have a level of depth to it that keeps it more engaging (but for this, you really need to implement the secondary weapons to their fullest potential), and the game feel itself... Well, the game just FEELS more fun!

TL;DR ARC Squadron doesn't have the same level of polish as NFS:MW, but it's just that much more gripping at times, and that's what matters most.

Picking from that list: Arc Squadron by far.

Though how is Knights of Pen & Paper not listed? :(

Ok, sorry. My actual vote goes to NFS MW for being extremely to the point. Special mention to Arc Squadron...my only problem was with the game's controls slightly.

I head up the studio that created ARC Squadron so my vote should probably not count, but definitely check it out! We had over a dozen publishers offer us publishing deals if we would change to the game to force more in-app purchases and banner ads but we decided to roll the dice on doing this our way without all that noise.

If not us then I at least implore everyone to vote for an indie title!
