The best iOS and Android games of April 2017: Antitype, Planescape: Torment, Invert and more

Looking back on a month in mobile gaming
Product: Game of the Month | Publisher: Steel Media Ltd | Format: Android, iPhone, iPad

Welcome one and all to our round-up of the best games to have been released on iOS and Android over the preceding calendar month.

A month is a long time in the world of mobile gaming. Dozens of new games are released each week, so a lot can get lost over the space of a calendar month. Fortunately, we're here to sum things up for you.

April wasn't exactly a classic month for mobile games, but there are a couple of treats in there.

Antitype
By BorderLeap - buy on iOS

Antitype is a finely honed word game that also plays like a challenging puzzler. There's a welcome degree of careful strategy to this clever game of antonyms.

Invert
By Noodlecake Studios - buy on iOS / buy on Android

A colourful tile-flipping puzzler with tones of Reversi and Go - but with a limited move allowance honing the experience for mobile play.

Full of Stars
By ArsThanea - download on iOS

Occupying a fascinating area between arcade game and narrative fiction, Full of Stars wraps up multiple-choice storytelling and one-touch gameplay in an attractive sci-fi wrapper.

Mallow Drops
By Gritfish - buy on iOS

A charming puzzle platformer that combines Quell-like swipe-based movement with clever gravity manipulating. Oh, and adorable little birds.

Pengy Has a Dream
By h8game - buy on iOS

Sketching out ice platforms for a little penguin to slide on is just the sort of cute thing your mobile was made for. Pengy Has a Dream isn't particularly deep, but it sure is fun.

Bomb Hunters
By Craneballs - download on iOS / download on Android

Imagine a mash-up of Crossy Road and the movie Speed. Sounds awesome, eh? That's Bomb Hunters for you.

Binary Dash
By Star Garden Games - download on iOS / download on Android

Binary Dash
is a smart two-touch platformer that lets you switch the orientation of each level with touch. It's not original but it's good frantic fun.

Get Me Outta Here
By Crescent Moon Games - download on iOS

Don't let Get Me Outta Here's simple arcade-blaster appearance fool you - this is actually a pleasantly awkward action game. Nailing its swipe-based control system, in particular, is a real treat.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
By Telltale - buy on iOS / buy on Android

You know the score with Telltale adventure games by now. Lots of plot, multiple choices, a few direct inputs. But this time you get to enjoy the company of Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Drax, and Groot.

Planescape: Torment
By Overhaul Games - buy on iOS / buy on Android

This is an enhanced port of a legendary PC RPG game, complete with a remastered soundtrack, bug fixes, an updated UI designed for touch, and other improvements. If old school role playing games are your thing, you can't really go wrong.
