The best iOS and Android games of February 2017: The Frostrune, Slayaway Camp, Causality and more
|

Welcome to our monthly round-up of the best games on iOS and Android from the preceding calendar month.

Have you taken your eye off the App Store or Google Play Store for a week or two of late? It's okay, we understand. You were busy. We won't hold it against you.

In fact, we're going to help catch you up on the choicest morsels of mobile gaming from the past 30 days.

February might be the shortest month of the year, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily short of great mobile games. Check these out.

The Frostrune
By Grimnir Media - buy on iOS / buy on Android

A glorious point-and-click adventure that draws from Norse mythology rather than the usual fantasy guff. This is a real labour of love.

Causality
By Loju - buy on iOS / buy on Android

Causality plays with time loops to create a fresh and challenging isometric puzzler. Oh, and it looks beautiful too.

Slayaway Camp
By Blue Wizard Digital - buy on iOS

The otherwise benign block-sliding puzzler sub-genre gets the schlocky treatment in Slayway Camp, which places you in direct control of a psycho killer. Nasty.

Heart Star
By Jussi Simpanen - download on iOS

The first of two dual-character platformers this month, Heart Star sees you switching between two colour-coded heroes to guide them to safety.

The Warlock of Firetop Mountain
By Tin Man Games - buy on iOS

Tin Man Games here takes a fresh approach to digitising the Fighting Fantasy gamebook - with impressive results. It's a lot more involving than previous efforts thanks to its single player boardgame setup.

MUL.MASH.TAB.BA.GAL.GAL
By Riverman Media - buy on iOS

What a strange name, eh? Which is funny really, because at heart MUL.MASH.TAB.BA.GAL.GAL is a twist on the classic Pong format - albeit a particularly inspired one.

Turmoil
By Gamious - buy on iPad

Drill for oil, bribe officials, and sell for highest price possible. Turmoil is some of the most fun you can have being a cut-throat capitalist.

Glitchskier
By Shelly Alon - buy on iOS / buy on Android

There are plenty of retro-inspired games out there, but Glitchskier lives and dies by its hardcore retro aesthetic. Actually, you're the one that will be doing the dying - this is a tough shooter.

Warlock's Tower
By Midipixel - buy on iOS / buy on Android

Warlock's Tower adopts a classic Game Boy vibe, but its strict movement counter-based gameplay makes for a thoroughly modern iOS puzzler.

Narcissus
By Alexander Johansson - download on iOS

Find normal autorunners too easy? Try controlling two characters at once and see how you like it. Of course, you could always use Narcissus's split mechanic for some local multiplayer action instead.

Jon Mundy
Jon Mundy
Jon is a consummate expert in adventure, action, and sports games. Which is just as well, as in real life he's timid, lazy, and unfit. It's amazing how these things even themselves out.
