App Army Assemble: Full of Stars - A shmup with a story worth checking out?

Full of Stars is a unique combo of shmup and a narrative adventure like Lifeline, where the core focus is on survival at all costs.

You'll fly vertically through space, battling nasties, collecting vital fuel, and avoiding obstacles. Aside from that, you'll also have to make tough decisions, upgrade your ship, and partake in random encounters.

We gave this to the App Army to see what they thought, and here's what they had to say.

Ed Davis

I quite like this game. The combination of shmup and an interactive storyline is a nice feature that I've not come across before. I'm interested to see how it pans out.

Synyava Oleksandr

Awesome art and sound design. The story is great and I really liked the possibility to choose a particular action and face the consequences.

Ethan Harold

Very charming game, with neat graphics and gameplay, but there's one glaring problem - the energy system. If you want people to enjoy your game, limiting the time they can play is not the way to go. Other than that, it's a fun game that I enjoy to play.

Linh Nguyen

This reminds me a bit of Swing Copter - it's so hard. And the energy system doesn't let you play much.

Aaron Burdett

Interesting decision-based storylines always get me going. I loved it. This broken up with bursts of endless runner-esque space travel felt just right.

It also had just enough tinkering to not get overwhelming or take away from the enjoyment.

Sandro Guascone

Nice graphics, easy to control. Good little storyline. Fun game overall.

Joseph Mark Maceiko

Overall, I thought this was a decent game. The controls were simple and responsive. I was surprised that I was able to control my ship as well as I did. It was rewarding to be able to squeeze through the tight asteroid fields at times.

The text adventure portion could have done with more depth though. I liked how you had multiple options when the various crises occurred, but the same situations just kept repeating too often for my liking.

I'm not a fan of games that use an energy system to keep playing. It's easy enough to watch a video or use resources to keep playing, but for me it disrupts the flow of the game.

I've always had a soft spot for games that can pull you into their story and give you gameplay that feels meaningful. This has hit my soft spot and went straight to my heart.

It's exactly like every other endless runner but with some dialogue options and other things but that is just the thing. Simple gameplay and good story are all great combinations for a great experience and that is what I had.

Tom-Donna Clark

I agree 100% with Barrett on this one, although I thought the graphics were a bit lacking. I enjoy this endless runner because there is a storyline to keep you engaged, unlike most others.

If endless runners are your cup of tea, then this one is for you.
