Raining frogs: Frogger Inferno hits the App Store, Frogman incoming

Typical: you wait 20 months for a frog-based portable video game and two come along at once.

The first, released yesterday in the US but not yet available on the UK App Store, is Frogger Inferno. This is an update of Konami's evergreen Frogger, an arcade game about getting a frog from the bottom of the screen to the top, evading cars and other obstacles.

In Frogger Inferno, the frog you're controlling leaves behind it a trail of fire, meaning you can only move forwards. Doubling back entails being incinerated by your own (presumably rectal) emissions.

There's also Facebook Connect integration, so you can keep your friends updated on your progress.

Next there's Frogman, a homage to Frogger. Developed by Revolutionary Concepts, who brought us the excellent Cobra Command, Frogman is a full 3D singing and dancing effort with impressive production values, a comic book plot, and its prehensile tongue firmly in its cheek.

RC describes Frogman as “Frogger's 3rd Cousin Twice Removed - on Steroids!”

Frogger Inferno is out now in the US, while Frogman is apparently coming 'VERY soon' to iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and, inevitably, 'lillipad.'
