There's another brand new mode in Fortnite, and this one will have you getting up close and personal with the enemy.
In Close Encounters, the kinds of guns you'll find, the way you move, and the way you'll play have all changed pretty dramatically, and you need to get ready to go in if you want to win.

Of the third kind
In case you haven't been able to tell what this game mode is all about from the title, Close Encounters is all about getting up close are personal with your enemies.
Weapons you'll find are drastically different, and your mobility options will change too. This also means that putting up your defensive buildings and setting up spike traps is more important than ever.
You'll have to stay mobile and get ready for people to come at you quickly, so stick with your team and stay aware of your surroundings.

Shotguns
Your only real weapon in this game mode will be the humble shotgun - but never fear, it's an effective weapon at the ranges you'll be playing at.
Of course this means you have to be ready for shotgun-based play, and as such, players will be coming straight for you, jumping around and throwing up buildings while trying to get in close.
You might get grenades along the way, but it's unlikely. That also means you should be using your own buildings skill to avoid enemies, or lure them into advantageous situations for you, like surprising them from above.

Get mobile
And getting above them is easier than ever in this mode, thanks to plenty of jetpacks and grapple guns being available.
Jetpacks will give you a massive extra jump, while the grapple guns can have you shooting across the map, saving you from falls, and climbing buildings with ease.
Of course you can use these mobility options either to escape, or lurch towards your foes, shotguns at the ready. It makes for a much more intense game of Fortnite.

Encroaching storm
Another thing you'll have to factor into your game plan, is that the storm in this mode moves much faster than usual.
This means that your usual tactics of sticking near the edge of the storm won't be very effective - make sure to stay well ahead, and keep near the inside of the safe zone, with a weathered eye on the horizon.
It's good that you'll have those extra mobility options, because without them, you'll have to run across the open a lot. Though, considering you mainly use shotguns, you shouldn't be in too much danger unless someone sneaks up on you.
