If you're anything like me, reading that Final Fantasy Dimensions has been given a release date of August 31st will have put a rather large smile on your face.

Sit down, though, because you're not going to be happy about the following piece of news.

Square Enix has announced that the first of Final Fantasy Dimensions's four chapters will be available for £1.99 / $2.99, which is pretty reasonable.

Chapters two, three, and four, on the other hand, will cost £6.99. EACH. Yes, each. You can save a few pennies by downloading all four chapters in one fell swoop for £19.99 / $28.99, but, still, you can buy a human kidney for less than that. Probably.

This isn't the first time some of us here at Pocket Gamer Towers have been shocked by the price of a new Square Enix title. Around this time last year, the PG team debated whether or not Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions's £10.99 / $15.99 price tag is simply too high.

Wow. I was excited to add this to my RPG folder. BUT now, no thank you! I can justify playing FFT for the first time on my iPad for $16. But for the chance to play a 16 bit RPG that looks, sounds, and feels old school... I'll just keep content with FFI & FFII. And then I'll enjoy Ash, Cthulhu, On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness, etc. I definitely don't NEED this game. I would have possibly purchased it for $8, even if I would never finish it. But for almost $30... I'll just stop buying SE games. Period.

Also, I'm not sure of anybody noticed, but $7 three times, plus $3 once, is $24. You save $5 by buying the chapters individually. The bundle is literally a rip-off.

Not sure if this is just bad math on Square's part or if PG got the wrong numbers or something, but if this is right, and you are so inclined to get all four chapters, DO NOT BUY IN BULK.

Thats a bit high for a port... Its old school for for than 3 AAA iOS titles. I'd pay around $15 for an exclusive (and no not Chaos Rings) super high quality game from Square... but not $29 for a stinkin SNES port. BLAH!

It's certainly enough to deter me. I enjoyed Chaos Rings enough to finish it, but I waited until a Christmas sale to buy it: I just don't have that much money to devote to games (and much less so now), and the full price tag is rather prohibitive for what it was: a premium iOS game. That's it. This is more criminal for the War of the Lion port (which was $16 for a game done 15 years ago, that reportedly wasn't even ported with much care). $30 is just too much for me to trust that I'm not making an unwise investment, especially given their recent history on iOS.

I do think it will be too expensive for many iOS gamers. But the high pricing seems to be working for Square Enix or else they would have changed their pricing plan.

While $28.99 does seem like alot of money, once you divide that up into four it isn't too much. Square Enix is actually giving us a break on pricing on this app given their other expensive app like Chaos Rings 2 and FFT.
