Nostalgia-driven Final Fantasy Dimensions receives release date

But platforms remain unclear

Nostalgia-driven Final Fantasy Dimensions receives release date

As part of its 25th Anniversary celebration of the Final Fantasy brand, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Dimensions, a new mobile roleplaying game, during its pre-E3 press release.

Siliconera is now reporting that Final Fantasy Dimensions received an August 31st release date, but it is unclear at this time if that is a global release date or specific only for Japan.

To further complicate matters, there is still some debate as to what platforms Final Fantasy Dimensions will be released on. The game's official website lists a release date of August 31, 2012 but only mentions that it is 'for iOS'.

By contrast, the North American Square-Enix website lists a release date of 'Summer 2012' but specifies that Dimensions will be available for Android, iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

Relive the magic... eventually

Despite its new plot and setting, Final Fantasy Dimensions will be a trip down retro memory lane for long-time fans of the Final Fantasy franchise.

Character classes like Ninja, Dark Knight, Dancer, and Dragoon all make appearances in Dimensions, as do familiar enemy designs and the turn-based combat system that has long been a staple of Final Fantasy games.

We will keep you updated with any further news regarding the release date and supported platforms when it becomes available.
