Final Fantasy: All The Bravest is the latest instalment in Square Enix's popular RPG series, and it's set to do battle on the App Store at midnight tonight.

Though there was some speculation over what Squeenix has been teasing on its new micro-site over the past few days, we can confirm that Final Fantasy: All The Bravest is an all-new pixel-art celebration of the entire FF series.

With nostalgia goggles firmly planted on their peepers, the designers over at the esteemed Japanese dev have knocked up a retro-flavoured battler, which brings together classic FF characters and enemies from down the years.

No limits

Due to the shift in focus from adventuring and exploration to stage-driven combat in Final Fantasy: All The Bravest, you can pit large groups of familiar heroes against baddies and bosses.

And when we say 'large groups', we mean large.

In one screenshot for the game, 16 warriors - including FF VII icon Cloud Strife and FF VI heroine Terra - are shown taking on a single boss in a ruckus of epic proportions.

To attack, you simply wait for a character's Active Time Battle (ATB) gauge to charge. When the gauge is full, it's just a case of tapping or dragging your finger over the sprite to enter the fray.

Activate the "Fever" option, and you'll be able to attack without waiting for ATB gauges to charge. Make your attack count, though - this option is only available once every three hours.

As you might hope, the soundtrack for Final Fantasy: All The Bravest is a veritable jukebox of fan-favourite tunes. In total, the soundtrack features over 30 tracks from the series.

A pretty penny

Of course, this is a Squeenix game, so that means a multitude of IAPs. So, yep, you'll be able to drop real coin on 35 additional characters.

Each purchased character will come with an additional random character. Stages from FF VII, X, and XIII will also be available from the store.

Though we'll have to wait and see what Squeenix is charging for these transactions, the company has a habit of squeezing fans dry when it comes to IAPs.

You'll be able to download Final Fantasy: All The Bravest for iPhone and iPad from midnight. It'll set you back £1.99 / $2.99, by the way.

Interesting. Looking forward to a review, for sure. Too bad they haven't included stages from FF IX, my favorite of the PS1 games.
