A mysterious developer called N Rad has just released a £1.99 / $2.99 iPhone application called FarCry Black.

No, this isn't a mobile port of Ubisoft's excellent console shoot-'em-up. It isn't some sort of companion app either.

It's actually one of those bloody scam apps.

According to its App Store description, FarCry Black is "an open world first-person shooter" that allows you to explore "a beautiful and diverse island playground".

You can apparently traverse "lost Japanese bunkers, ancient temples, and secluded caves", and make use of a fully-fledged "crafting system".

See that screenshot above? That's what FarCry Black is supposed to look like, according to the iTunes description.

And that screenshot above? That's what N Rad's game actually looks like. It's a strange side-scrolling platformer that's riddled with hideous controls and pretty mediocre graphics.

I managed to play it for about 30 seconds before my eyes melted out of my skull.

So, let that be a public service announcement: don't spend any cash on this scam. How it got past Apple is anyone's guess?

If you've already been duped by the promise of a stunning-looking shooter, you should request a refund from Apple. If you don't know how to do that, check out our newly published guide.
