Ever Knight review - An arcade slasher with a bit more going for it

Ever Knight is an interesting twist on the one-touch arcade game. You're playing the titular scrapper, and you're working your way through a horde of enemies.

The controls are simple, much like the idea, but it takes a couple of goes before things actually start to click. Once they do though there's a decent amount to like here.

It's by no means perfect, but as diversions go it's actually got a lot more depth than many of the games you're going to find on the App Store.

Knight knight

Everything in the game is controlled with taps and swipes. Poke the screen and you'll attack forwards, swipe left or right and you'll slash out in the direction and move across to the next lane.

The aim of the game is to get as far through the oncoming horde as you can. Take a hit and you'll die. Dropping off the end of the screen will also kick you back to the start of the fight.

It's a bit more complex than just mashing the screen though. Different attackers have different qualities, so you need to attack them from different directions.

There are coins to collect as well. You can spend these on new pieces of equipment. Weapons, helmets, and pieces of armour all change how the game plays out in some pretty subtle ways.

You've got special moves as well. You get these by picking up gems. Long press on the screen and you'll unleash a barrage of pink lightning, a swirling cloud of red death, or any of a number of other spells depending on what you picked up.

This isn't just a mad smash and brag raid then. You need to think about what's coming down the screen at you, and react in a way that's going to keep you safe while still earning you currency.

Armour up

At first glance it looks like there's not much going on in Ever Knight, but the more you play the more you'll realise that that just isn't the case. There's meat on these bones.

It might not always be the tastiest meat, and it might not be the best cut either, but you're going to enjoy gnawing your way through the lumps of it all the same.

It might look a little one note, but dig deeper and you'll find a lot to love in Ever Knight
