Jet Set Willy and Manic Miner creator Matthew Smith will be teaming up with veteran British gaming studio Elite Systems to develop a new title.

In fact, Smith has been working with Elite to port some of his older games across to iOS for over two years.

It seems as though the partnership has been an amicable one, for Smith intends to collaborate with the Lichfield-based company once again on an all-new creation.

Though Smith is something of a hero in gaming circles, Elite isn't short of fans in the video game community, either.

One glance at the studio's back catalogue - which contains publishing credits for Space Harrier and Ghosts'n Goblins - explains why it is held in high regard.

Nowadays, Elite primarily publishes classic games on mobile. It has already released (among others) R-Type, Paperboy, and Double Dragon EX for mobile, along with an iOS version of Jet Set Willy.

Though the details of this new Smith / Elite project have yet to be revealed, we imagine the fruits of their labour will find its way to iOS - and possibly even Android - upon release.

We expect to hear more from the team soon. In the meantime, check out this short interview with Matthew Smith:
