Doom Eternal delayed to March next year
Switch version launching after other platforms
Doom Eternal, one of the most highly anticipated games of 2019, has been delayed to March 20th next year. The announcement arrived earlier today over on the official Doom Twitter account.
The tweet embedded below also confirms that the Switch port will release after the PS4, Xbox One, and PC launch, though no firm date was given. Likewise, the game's targeted launch date on Google Stadia is still unknown.
The upcoming port of Doom 64, which we’ve known about for a while now, has been relegated to a pre-order bonus for Doom Eternal. I imagine it’ll also be available for purchase individually after launch, but that obviously is yet to be confirmed. An update on DOOM Eternal: pic.twitter.com/2LWrfh6e4Z — DOOM (@DOOM) 8 October 2019
Invasion Mode, in which you can enter the game of another player as a demon, will release as a free download shortly after launch.
The reason for the delay is fairly standard: The game needs a bit more polish. Doom Eternal was originally supposed to launch next month, November 22nd, so the delay comes as a bit of a surprise. Nevertheless, I’d much prefer a polished experience than another AAA game kicked out the door before it's ready to be played.
