Get into the groove with iPhone music app Doo Wop
Character-based tap n beatbox
Let's face it - Apple launched its portable hardware on the back of personal music, but there's not been a lot apps or games that leverage that particular theme.
One such however is Gamerholix's Doo Wop.
It's a music app that part my-first-sequencer and part game.
The foundation is a bunch of zany characters, each of which have their own samples attached to them. When you tap them, their sound is released and they do a funny animation too.
Combined with a backing track, you can build up your own musical relief and save out the end result to send to your friends.
There's also a follow-me-style mini-game where you have to copy the progressively more complex pattern of singing characters.
To that extent then, Doo Wop is something of a musical sandbox experience. It's groovy but demands a certain amount of commitment from its audience in order to unlock its full potential.
Still, priced at 99c, €0.79 or 59p, if you're interested in making music, Doo Wop looks like it will be worth your time when it's released - any day now.
