Disney Infinity series has been cancelled
Disney have also pulled out of Game Publishing
This suprising news story broke overnight. Disney Infinity will be no more after the final Play Set releases in June. Ironic, considering the name.
During their second quarterly earnings for 2016, The Walt Disney Company announced that the fan-favourite series will be cancelled. The company has also 'discontinued their self-published console games business'
With Avalanche Studios set to close, Disney will once again license their games to other developers and publishers.
John Blackburn, SVP & GM of Disney Infinity wrote on an official blog, 'I wanted to take a moment to thank you not just for your support over the years, but for creating a community that made Disney Infinity more than just a game.'
The first version of Disney Infinity released back in 2013 and featured the likes of Mr.Incredible and Jack Skellington.
Releases have been annual ever since and featured characters from both the Marvel and Star Wars universes.
John Blackburn stated that 'We have two final retail releases coming, including three new characters from Alice Through the Looking Glass later this month, and the Finding Dory Play Set launching in June.'
After that, the release schedule ends and Disney Infinity will gradually walk off into the sunset.
