Devious Dungeon 2

It'd be easy to write off Devious Dungeon 2 as just another Ravenous Games game. It's got the same thick pixely look, the same simple controls, and the same bite-sized levels.

But this is a much weightier beast, and it's all the better for it. It's a retro dungeon-crawling platformer that's as compulsive as it is entertaining, it's massive, and there are three different characters to play through with.

Delving

You start by picking a class. There's a sword swinging barbarian, a magic tossing mage, and a sneaky-stabby rogue. Each plays slightly differently, with the mage capable of hovering, and the rogue getting a double jump.

Once picked you stumble into a dungeon and have to kill everything, grab a key, and make it to the exit without running out of health. There are secret areas to explore, coins to collect, and new equipment to purchase.

The combat is surprisingly effective. Holding down the attack button and pushing away from your opponent lets you slide away while you attack, giving you a chance to kill the creatures before they get too close.

The levels are tight and cleverly paced, and boss battles punctuate the chunks of the castle you're trying to invade. There's a decent level of challenge here, as you'd expect from Ravenous, and earning cash to buy new equipment quickly becomes habit-forming.

Devious Dungeon 2 is, simply put, a great mobile game. It's thick and juicy, dribbled through with good ideas, and the action is fast and just the right side of difficult.

If you're looking for a rich platforming experience to get you through some damp spring days, then this is well worth checking out. Hell, it's worth it even if you're not.
