Down with buildings! Demolition Crush by Ganimedes Ltd is a physics-based blasting game that challenges you to destroy structures as safely and efficiently as possible.

Actually, you can go a little lax on the "safety" thing if you want. Anyone dumb enough to wander into an active demolition zone deserves to meet their maker.

Demolition Crush stars a dynamite-loving demolition man who's finally found his dream job. Wealthy property developers ask him to clear away houses and buildings with his explosives, and he's happy to oblige. A certain portion of each stage must be completely flattened before you're allowed to move on to the next bit.

As is the case with Angry Birds, the "houses" in Demolition Crush are actually weird, tottering structures that look ready to come down with a stiff breeze. Destroying them isn't always as easy as it looks, however.

While some structures are made of easily-collapsible wood, later buildings introduce stone, glass, and steel. These take a little more bang to bring down.

Fortunately, you're supplied with the tools needed to get the job done. Aside from plain old dynamite, you also have access to cluster bombs, heavy-duty explosives, and environmental hazards that can set off a chain reaction (any steel barrel decorated with a yellow exclamation mark deserves to have a stick of dynamite taped to it).

Yes! Let's!

Every level of Demolition Crush features a dotted line that all rubble must fall beneath before the stage is considered clear. The flatter things get, the higher your score. The dotted line is a tricky measuring mechanic: there are times I swore I cleared the line, only to have the game tell me, "nope." It's pretty unforgiving.

Aside from worrying about the line, you also need to be mindful of the lookie-loos that wander into your construction zone. While you're free to blast a two-by-four clear through their silly foreheads, you won't three-star a level if they don't survive.

Demolition Crush is a free-to-play game that utilises an energy system - an odd feature for a physics-based game. Every new level you enter costs a unit of energy, which refills slowly (very slowly) on its own. There are also advertisements to contend with.

"Civilians on the range! ...Eh. Screw it."

There are ways around the energy system, of course. Unlimited energy is purchasable for a small fee, and it can also be refilled with rubies, the currency you earn in-game. Alternatively, a single unit of energy is filled if you volunteer to watch an ad. It would be nice if watching the ad filled more than a single unit at a time, but it's good to have the option.

Demolition Crush advertises itself as a physics game that requires brains as much as it requires a love of blowing things up. This claim isn't incorrect: if you want to three-star every level, you need to carefully plan out the location of every bomb before you hit the detonator.

That said, Demolition Crush is also fun for those of us who would prefer to sling around explosives without any regard for others' safety. Planning? Procedure? Pssht!
