Award-winning Amiga strategy game Defender of the Crown battling onto iPhone and iPad on August 11th

A few weeks before Christmas, retro gaming specialist Manomio showed off its iAmiga emulator for iPhone. One of the Amiga gems the studio used to demonstrate the potential of the emulation app was Cinemaware's Defender of the Crown.

This strategy classic, originally released back in ancient times (1986), will be available in the App Store on August 11th as a Universal title.

Here at Pocket Gamer Towers, we rated Defender of the Crown as one of the top ten retro releases we'd love to see on iPhone, so you can imagine our excitement.

The game itself takes place in medieval England, shortly after the death of King Richard. There's a power vacuum, and you get the rather unenviable job of leading a minority faction - the Saxons - to total victory.

They never make it easy, do they?

Defender of the Crown will launch on the iPhone and iPad worldwide on August 11th.
