Glu has just released a trailer for a new action game called Death Dome, which seems to have been influenced by two titans of the modern gaming scene.

From the trailer, we can deduce that Death Dome will play out a lot like Infinity Blade - over-the-shoulder one-on-one action, basically.

You appear to take on a series of brutes in mortal combat, getting points for dodging, parrying, and landing brutal attacks.

Another evident reference point for the developer is the console and PC series Borderlands. Not only does Death Dome crib that series's post-apocalyptic comic book art style, but it also borrows a few of its gameplay elements.

When you land hits in Death Dome, your enemy spits out coloured numbers and phrases reflecting your achievements (how much damage you've inflicted, when you've executed a successful dodge, and so on). As anyone who's played one of the Borderlands games knows, this is an incredibly compelling reward mechanism.

Death Dome also tips its hat to Borderlands through its emphasis on gathering loot from the battlefield, as well as the nature of its elemental weapons (fire, lightning, acid).

Given that the line between eyebrow-raising copy and smart tribute is so fine, it's hard to tell whether Death Dome is an example of the former or the latter. We're prepared to give Death Dome the benefit of the doubt, though... for now. We'll have to get some hands-on time with Death Dome before we can decide for sure.

And before you ask, Death Dome is heading to iPhone, iPad, and Android soon.

It's been out on the Canadian App Store for about a month, which is a solid indicator that it's a freemium game (Canada is a kind of beta test region for freemium titles). While the game is free to play, you'll have to pay out for the better items and weapons.
