Nintendo DS emulator appears on the iPhone App Store
Of sorts
Here's an app that's not likely to last too long - a DS emulator for the iPhone. Actually, emulator is probably too strong a word. DS simulator is probably a little closer to the truth.
Anyway, whatever it is, DS Double Sys does a pretty good job of mimicking Nintendo's handheld dual-screen console and its operating system.
Not only does it feature the calendar, clock, settings and other features that to greet you when switching on the DS, but it also reproduces all the sounds, warning screens and even features a couple of games - Pixel Mania (a music game) and a 'secret' game.
The application mainly focuses on the two screens, though tilting the device around allows you to catch a glimpse of a full, virtual 3D DS hovering behind the iPhone's screen.
Other than the small bundled games, the exact purpose of DS Double Sys is a little unclear (other than as a two fingers up at Nintendo's back). The official webpage does mention that future editions will include "more game card", though again, it's not exactly clear what that means (surely it can't be referring to DS game ROMs?).
In all likelihood, there won't be all that many updates, as Nintendo is unlikely to tolerate the existence of such an application for very long. And once again we're forced to cluck our tongues and throw our eyes to the ceiling at Apple's bizarre submissions system.
When Manomio's superb and officially licensed C64 Emulator is repeatedly rejected, how on earth did this slip through?
