Forthcoming iOS and Android game Crashlands is an intriguing blend of open-world survival, creature taming, and combat
One with the animals
Crashlands is the next game from the developer of the Silver Award-winning game Quadropus Rampage. Yep, Butterscotch Shenanigans.
The team describes this veritable pot pourri of gaming ideas as a blend of "survival, crafting, creature management, strategic combat, and player expression".
Crashlands takes place on an endless world full of strange creatures you have to battle, capture, and tame.
Death Becomes ItThe bulk of the challenge here comes from ensuring the needs of your character are fulfilled so that it doesn't die. But exploring the many biomes and their inhabitants is a big part of the experience, too.
The different creatures you'll find are also central to the combat. Butterscotch Shenanigans has actually detailed in a blog post the different ways in which you can interact with them.
The team's current plan is to launch an open beta for Crashlands on May 9th. The game should be available on Android in June, and on iOS in late June.
If you want to stay a bit longer, I'll tell you the story behind the development of Crashlands. It's both saddening and inspiring.
Sam Costa, the artist among the team of brothers at Butterscotch Shenanigans, was diagnosed with cancer last November.
"Seth. I don't want Extreme Slothcycling to be the last game I make before I die," Sam said to his programmer brother.
So, it was decided that Butterscotch Shenanigans's next project would be one that "meant something and that lasted".
Looking to the futureFortunately, Sam is now undergoing treatment for the cancer and should hopefully pull through in no time. Meanwhile, Crashlands is looking great - we can't wait to try it out next month.
You can keep up with the development updates on Crashlands on the Butterscotch Shenanigans website.
