There are plenty of autorunners on the App Store, so if a new one wants to catch your attention it's going to have to at least try to do something different.

And Crashbots does just that. It's far more complex than most other games in the genre, and while it doesn't reach the heights of the likes of the Rayman games, there's still plenty here to like.

There are niggles, and sometimes it feels like the difficulty is a little off, but there's enough going on that it's still worth checking out.

Robo run

The game sees you controlling a robot. You're running down the inside of a warehouse, which is filled with obstacles to attempt to avoid.

To do that you've got a bunch of controls at your disposal. Buttons move you left and right across the path, and you can shoot, slide, and jump over things you can't dodge.

The controls are pretty slick, and it's interesting to play a runner that doesn't restrict you to lanes. That freedom is welcome, but it makes for a sometimes fidgety experience.

This isn't an easy game by any means, and it's going to take you a while to get to grips with the ins and outs of the system it drops you into.

Not that that's a bad thing, but if you're coming to Crashbots expecting an experience you can plunge into straight away you might leave a little frustrated.

There are RPG elements here too, that let you toughen up your bot as you play. And a good deal of modes to play through as well.

Crash override

Crashbots doesn't quite make it into the upper echelons of the runner genre, but it's definitely skirting them.

If you're looking for a game that's a little different from the crowd, then there's a pretty weighty experience here that's ready to be discovered.

A thick and enjoyable auto-runner. It might have a few niggles, but it's still a lot of fun
