So this is one of those clickers then?

Yup, CoinOp Heroes 2 is a clicker, but I wouldn't describe it as a conventional one. It's level-based rather than endless for a start (though you can 'Prestige' which kind of makes it endless) and there's an element of strategy involved when selecting and upgrading your warriors and heroes.

But it's still mostly clicking, right?

Well, tapping, but yes - the primary bulk of the experience is spent doing just that. You tap to attack, upgrade, use skills, travel to new locations, and get free gold and gems by tapping on gnomes that run across the screen.

Is that fun?

That entirely depends on how much you like clickers. There's nothing here that will convince clicker-doubters that they're wrong, but fans of the genre will get a kick out of the relatively fresh warrior system, the heroes, and the tough boss battles.

What's the difference between a warrior and a hero?

Warriors are the soldiers that make up your army. You can have up to four of them battling alongside you at any one time. Heroes, on the other hand, dictate your tap damage and have a unique spell to use in battle that can do cool things like increase your gold, up the attack speed of your army, or deal enormous AoE damage in a single attack.

So where does the challenge come from?

That's twofold. First there's figuring out how best to spend the gold you earn from killing enemies. Do you focus on upgrading your favourite warriors? Your chosen hero? Or keep your upgrades balanced?

Then there's the combat itself which is as easy or as difficult as you want to make it. You can stick around in an easy level and let your army take care of the monsters or travel to a higher level where obsessive clicking will be required to progress.

Do you recommend it then?

Like I said earlier - if you're into your clickers you'll get a kick out of this. There's enough innovation here to keep hardened fans of the genre intrigued as well as a great plot, which involves you getting trapped inside an arcade machine and having to battle hordes of enemies to defeat the Death Stalker.

It's pleasingly retro too. That being said, if you've never liked clickers there's not a lot here that will convince you to see the error of your ways.

If you're into your clickers you'll get a kick out of the relatively fresh elements found in Coin-Op Heroes 2 but none-fans would be best off staying away
