Just last week, Japanese social publisher DeNA announced that it's buying ngmoco – an iPhone publisher started by EA alumnus Neil Young – for $400m. Now it may be EA's turn to acquire: the gaming giant is rumoured to be buying Chillingo.

Blogger and Wall Street Journal columnist Kara Swisher has written on her BoomTown blog that “sources” claim Chillingo is “close to sale to a bigger company”. EA is the most likely acquirer, with Intel also in the running.

Startup Chillingo is one of the oldest publishers on the App Store, and one of the most successful, having brought both the world-conquering Angry Birdsand its heir apparent Cut the Rope to iPhone. The company has also developed its own social gaming platform, Crystal.

Estimates of Chillingo's value range from $80-$200m.
