Indian iPhone developer 99Games has secured the signature of leading chess player Natalia Pogonina for its online iPhone game Chess Elite.

Chess Elite players from around the world will now be able to test their mettle against one of the planet’s finest strategists.

Pogonina is a Russian player with a FIDE rating of 2501; making her the current 14th best female player in the world.

Taking advantage of the new chat feature, opponents will be able to swap tips and tricks with her in-game.

“As part of my activities aimed at promoting chess in the world, I am glad to cooperate with 99Games," Pogonina said.

"Our collaboration in the field of enhancing the game further should be beneficial for all Chess Elite players.”

Features of Chess Elite include push notifications for asynchronous play, Elo rating systems for improved matchmaking, unlimited simultaneous games, and an analysis mode for advanced strategising.

There are also Chess Elite Clubs that categorise players based on Elo ratings, while Smart Groups include Most Active Players, Most Promising Players and Past Opponents.

Chess Elite is available now on the App Store for £2.39 / $3.99 / €2.99. There's a Lite version too.
