Square-Enix’s Chaos Rings wowed us on its iPhone release last April, the jRPG earning a Pocket Gamer Gold Award. And its follow-up for iPhone and iPad is now available on the New Zealand App Store, meaning it'll be available in the UK at around midnight.

Chaos Rings Omega is a prequel, set 10,000 years before the events of the original, but retaining the classical turn-based RPG mechanics that made the iPhone and iPad game such a success.

You play as a young hero named Veig, who takes part in battles that are directly linked to Chaos Rings. Omega’s story spans the gap between the two games, finishing off where the first started.

The game’s battle system and interface is said to have been refined, and the game will feature Retina display support.

Excitingly, there are a number of free updates planned which should extend the game’s already healthy lifespan. Monthly downloads from June to December will increase the level cap and introduce an additional secret boss each time, while August’s update will add Japanese voice acting instead.

It’s available to buy for New Zealanders now, and will hit the UK App Store at midnight, costing £8.99 / $14.99 on iPad and $6.99 / $11.99 for iPhone - making it 59p/99c cheaper than the original Chaos Rings.

Fans of the first game can whet their appetites for this much-anticipated prequel by watching the official Chaos Rings Omega trailer below.
