Car Jack Streets hijacking its way onto iPhone

Gaining a third dimension in the process

Three games are currently battling out it for the title of mobile's most GTA-like, but unlike Ubisoft's Gangstars and THQ Wireless's Saints Row franchises, at least Tag Games can claim geneology for Car Jack Streets thanks to the fact that its co-founders worked on the original PC/PlayStation game.

And now the Dundee developer is preparing to take its ambition to the next level by priming its mission-based, topdown, money-making, shooting-and-blowing-things-up title for iPhone and iPod touch. All the key features from the mobile game, such as the huge city to explore, real-time gameplay, a large number of vehicles to jack, and an endless flow of criminal and legit missions will be present.

Some tasty extras are also promised with the graphics receiving a 3D make-over. They'll still be top-down, but like the original two GTA games, the depth should make everything look and feel a little more solid. The audio will be overhauled too, while new missions and vehicles that didn't fit into the mobile game due to memory limitations will make an appearance.

Of course, the most important aspect of the game will be the control method, but as yet Tag is playing its 'touchscreen, tilt or combinations thereof' cards close to its chest.

Hopefully though, we should be able to get our hands on some playable code before the game is unleashed onto the App Store in spring 2009. Frankly, it's the sort of game that deserves to shake up the seemingly endless variation of cheap puzzle and match-three games that are dominating Apple's platform.
