Canabalt is, without a doubt, one of the finest endless runners out there. It manages to conjure the atmosphere of a desperate escape and you can play it with a single finger. Now that's impressive.

And last night the iOS version of the classic sprint to your doom was updated with a whole splurge of new content.

There are eight new game modes, a multiplayer option, and 16 new achievements for you to try and unlock. All of which sounds like a good reason to start playing the game again.

The new game modes are more like twists on the formula, dropping more of a specific kind of obstacle in your path than usual.

Invasion keeps throwing alien spaceships at you. While Defenestration is all about throwing yourself through windows. Leap of Faith features invisible buildings.

Multiplayer games take place on the same screen and see two players controlling an escapee each. You each have a side of the screen to tap, and even when one of you falls in a hole the other will keep fleeing.

When we reviewed the game many moons ago we said "part timing, part luck, Canabalt is the kind of quick-fix that has the potential to become a phenomenon."

You can grab the updated version of the game from the App Store right now for £1.99 / $2.99. Y'know, if you want to.
