Call of Duty Mobile - 5 more classic FPS games we'd love to see coming to mobile

You might just have heard that there's a Call of Duty game coming out for mobile. It's called, imaginatively enough, Call of Duty Mobile, and it's set to hit the App Store and Google Play Store later in the year. We've already taken a look at what we learned from the first trailer, as well as taking an even deeper dive into what might be coming up with our resident CoD expert.
Now we thought it was time to start thinking about the other classic shooters that we'd love to see making their way to mobile. It'd be amazing if Call of Duty Mobile acted as a torchbearer, lighting the way for other series to finally make their debuts on iOS and Android.
Of course, a lot of this is wishful thinking, but it's Friday and we like to save our hope for just before the weekend. What about you? 2019 is shaping up to be the year when some of the biggest names in gaming finally stake a claim on the App Store and Google Play Store. We've already seen Blizzard making some pretty big waves with the announcement of Diablo Immortal and a commitment to bringing more of its games to the smallest screens, and with Call of Duty on the way too, expect other companies to be having a good hard look at how those games do.
And now, let's get on with having a look at the other classic FPS games we'd love to see coming out for mobile.

Destiny
We've said it before, we'll say it again - the fact that there isn't a version of Destiny on mobile is pretty weird. The balance of the gameplay is already going to be pretty darn similar to mobile veterans - play for a bit, watch your numbers go up, smile. Sure, phones and tablets might not have the power to capture the shininess of the console and PC releases, but that's not really the point.
You could even tie a mobile version into the home versions, letting you complete missions while you're on the move and seeing the changes when you load back up your main save. There's potential here, is what we're saying, and we'd love it if at least one of our wild ideas about Destiny mobile came to fruition.

Hexen
Where the other games on this list tend towards the sci-fi end of the FPS scale, Hexen (and Heretic before it) instead played around with a fantasy setting. You're still wandering around a world full of awful monsters, but instead of blowing their faces off with shotguns you're doing it with magic spells.
This is a series that's fallen off the map in recent times, but it's one of the most interesting FPS outliers, and seeing it get the love it deserves would be really nice. That said, we wouldn't expect a Hexen mobile game until the series gets a modern reboot. And then it probably won't be as much fun.

Timesplitters
The classic split-screen multiplayer that Timesplitters offered up still gets hearts fluttering here at Pocket Gamer towers. This is the last great multiplayer game of the pre-online era, but that doesn't mean that it isn't ripe for retooling as the first great multiplayer game of the post-this-article era.

Set across different eras in the Earth's history, this one still has a fervent cult following today. They'd probably all be very upset if a new Timesplitters game came out for mobile too, whereas we'd all be really chuffed because we'd get to play it. We're pretty sure that's how that situation would play out.

Left 4 Dead
Cooperative multiplayer is, quite frankly, the best way to multiplay. Left 4 Dead and its sequel managed to mix together the tautness of a zombie apocalypse, the bombastic shooting that Valve is known for, and the cooperation that only comes from being stuck in the same horrible situation with a bunch of other people.
It's unlikely this one is going to see the light of day anytime soon, and we'd expect if it ever did it'd have to have some pretty severe tweaks to make it work for mobile. That said, there aren't many better systems for easy cooperation than mobile, and it'd be amazing to see a same room mobile multiplayer game built around Valve's hyper-smart AI engine.

Unreal Championship
We already know that the Unreal engine works on mobile - it's worked on mobile for quite a while now - so making a version of this legendary multiplayer battler might be easier than building something from scratch. Technically Unreal Championship and its sequel were console-first games - without them we probably wouldn't have ended up with Gears of War.
That also shows how Epic is willing to move its properties to different devices if it thinks there's an opening there. Obviously Fortnite is the spanner in the works here, since it's doing so incredibly right now, but there's a lot of room in our hearts for Unreal Championship, and we think it'd do brilliantly if it ever did make it to mobile. Let's just hope Epic is reading this.
