Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies for iOS updated with free Ascension map

The iPhone and iPad versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies (which I will henceforth refer to as BLOPS:Z) have been updated with a new map called Ascension, along with a few other bits and bobs to tempt lapsed players back unto the breach.

Ascension is (in this writer's humble opinion) the finest of the DLC maps from the home console edition of the game, and takes place in a Soviet missile test facility that's been (as you might expect) overrun by the living dead.

It's larger and more complex than Kino der Toten, and features a multi-stage puzzle that has to be completed before the fabled Pack-a-Punch machine reveals itself.

Alongside the new map, the latest update to BLOPS:Z includes a few additions to the arsenal.

These extra items include the excellent Thunder Gun, the not-so-excellent Sickle, the bizarre Matryoshka dolls, and the black hole-generating comedy weapon: the Gersh Device.

Adding to this, anybody who logs back in for a game will be rewarded with a one-off 5,000 COD Points bonus. There will also be daily bonuses from now on that increase as you play for more consecutive days.

Unlike with the previous Call of Duty: Zombies game for iOS, the new Ascension map is free (hurrah!) in BLOPS:Z. The main game itself is available now as a Universal app for £4.99 / $6.99.
