Voodoo's Bumper.io has been doing crazy numbers on the App Store of late, suggesting that the .io bubble is far from bursting.

This places an interesting bumper cars spin on the established massively multiplayer arena genre. The idea is to barge your opponents off the side of each compact stage, with each successful kill making you bigger and bargier (is that even a word?).

These games aren't renowned for lasting too long, however. So the question is, if you're tired of Bumper.io but down with the whole .io premise, where do you go next?

Simple. Just check out the following .io games.

1
AXE.IO

Publisher: Crescent Moon Games
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Multiplayer
Find out more about AXE.IO
AXE.IO

Axe.io is probably our favourite .io game of the lot, and it's certainly the most polished and nuanced. You play as a marauding viking warrior, and you must take our your opponents with a finely timed axe-throw or sword slash.

2
Agar.io

Publisher: Miniclip
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Action, Multiplayer
Find out more about Agar.io
Agar.io

Agar.io is the game that started the whole .io craze. You play a tiny circle in a vast graph paper world, and it's up to you to guzzle up the opposition and grow your circle. Surprisingly few .io games match up to the quirky blueprint provided by this original.

3
Diep.io

Publisher: Miniclip
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Casual
Find out more about Diep.io
Diep.io

This one's from the peeps behind Agar.io, but it levels the whole .io thing up with a focus on twin-stick tank combat. There's a modicum of skill to its gameplay, in other words.

4
Paper.io

Publisher: Voodoo
Available on: iOS
Find out more about Paper.io
Paper.io

Paper.io turns the Snake-like formula on its head in that running into a players tale will kill them. Add in a territory 'painting' mechanic, and it makes for a rather more cagey, tactical affair.

5
Slither.io

Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Action
Find out more about Slither.io
Slither.io

Thinks of Slither.io as a multiplayer take on the original mobile game, Snake. Trundle around a vast arena, gobbling up blobs and avoiding the extended tails of your opponents. It's fun, if a little basic.

6
Hole.io

Publisher: Voodoo
Available on: iOS + Android
Find out more about Hole.io
Hole.io

Did Voodoo pinch the premise of Hole.io from the forthcoming Donuty County? Quite possibly. But in this case the 'gobble up everything in a hole' mechanic has been applied to a simple multiplayer arena game. So that's alright then. Maybe. We'll leave that up to you.
