Elite Systems gets set for Decathlon 2012 series on iOS

Elite Systems was responsible for some of the great arcade conversions of the late 1980s, so we're happy to see it stepping up to the plate to publish a "spiritual successor to Track & Field" on iOS.

That's what the developer is calling its new Decathlon 2012 range of games, which will be released from August 3rd. It's no coincidence that this is when the athletics events kick off in East London.

Of course, there's an actual successor to Track & Field on iOS in the shape of International Track & Field, but we'll let that one slide.

Bryan Clay's Decathlon 2012 and Ashton Eaton's Decathlon 2012 would appear to be essentially the same game as each other but fronted by a different champion athlete. Bryan Clay is the reigning Olympic champion in the decathlon event, while Ashton Eaton is the current world record holder for the decathlon.

The somewhat confusing press release refers to each of the games as "a Summer Games 3D: Special Edition", so it appears as if they're versions of the existing Summer Games 3D game, which is available on the App Store now [download].

Starter for 10

As in all decathlon competitions, the events featured in these special editions are: the 100 metres, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 metres, 110 hurdles, pole vault, discus, javelin, and 1500 metres.

We're knackered just listing them all.

The graphics will be rendered in full 3D, but the gameplay will be pure retro bliss. This means plenty of furious screen tapping in a bid to propel your digital athlete over the line and beat those high scores and world records.
