Bridge Constructor Stunts - Meccano on steroids

"Never mind," they say sagely. "We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it."

"NAY!" Headup Games cries, "we’ll bulldoze over it in a five tonne HGV!"

And if you ask why, the response is simple - because even if what's on the other side is rubbish, at least getting there was fun.

This is the mantra of Bridge Constructor Stunts - an adrenaline fuelled simulation game that packs power, performance, and petrol. Basically the Holy Trinity for those who guzzle their communion wine from a gas pump.

Onwards and upwards

It's the latest instalment in the Bridge Constructor series, which tests players with a variety of physics-based puzzles.

However, whereas previous titles have been about building the best structures to transport cars and lorries across rivers, Stunts is about creating death-defying ramps to cavort across to the exit.

It's certainly a fun spin on things, not least because rather than just hitting go and watching the vehicles drive themselves you now have full control over a car's speed and direction - even in the air.

It means that Stunts doesn't just test your logic, but your hand-eye coordination. You might have built the perfect track, but do you have the skill to guide your vehicle safely across?

It's trickier than it sounds, and the difficulty curve is as steep as the ramps you'll build. If you like a challenge, down a can of Red Bull and get ready to hit the ground running.

Still, the well-designed level editor keeps things manageable. You draw out paths and supports by dragging materials out onto a grid. Once you're happy with your design, you can get the vehicle rolling and record the whole thing to share online.

Pedal to the metal

It's brilliant fun, and teeth-grindingly intense. The physics engine that underpins Bridge Constructor Stunts is gloriously well-crafted, and equally fun to master.

The addition of goals is particularly addictive and coaxes you to not just complete a level, but to cram as many flips and tricks in as mechanically possible.

The only thing missing is a dash of personality to the game's aesthetics. While the gameplay itself is fun, visually each level blends into another and somewhat numbs the sense of progression.

I'm being pernickety though. Overall, Bridge Constructor Stunts is a great game, and a worthy addition to any self-respecting petrolhead's app store garage.

After spending months persuading her parents that it's a valuable career path, Alysia is still not bored with writing about games. That's a good thing really, since skills like spaceship navigation and zombie slaying are pretty much non-transferable.
