There's a twitchy pop to Bounty Rush's tale of lanes and outlaws that keeps your fingers busy for longer than you might expect.

It's not a deep game, by any means, but the quick-paced swipe-and-tap play makes for an arcade experience that delivers short sharp bursts of hastily distilled gaming moonshine.

This is a game that's fun through and through. And while it does get repetitive pretty quickly, it's not something you're going to sink hours into.

But it will fill a narrow slot in your day with its challenging Wild West violence.

A bridge I managed not to miss

Bounty Rush is an lane-based endless-runner with a violent twist. You pelt along a sandy backdrop, dodging cacti and barrels of TNT by swiping up and down on the left-hand side of the screen.

You also need to shoot bandits, which you can do by tapping on the right-hand side of the screen.

You've got three lives up your sleeve to get as far as you can, bagging points by shooting varmints and grabbing the chests of loot that are scattered around the screen.

By missing an outlaw, you lose a life. You also lose a life by running into any of the scenery you're supposed to be avoiding. Shooting any innocent Native Americans will cost you a heart, too. Oh, and if you miss a bridge and run through a river, it's Game Over.

There's very little margin for error. Quite often, for instance, you'll lose a couple of lives swiping up the screen to shoot a bandit, missing him with your shotgun and running into him at the same time.

The further into the game you get, the faster it becomes. Pretty soon, you're sprinting through the arid desert, swiping frantically to avoid anything in your path and to make sure the correct people get a shotgun blast to the face.

He appears to be alerted to my presence

It all gels together to make an entertaining, if brief, gaming experience. It's not particularly rich, and it's certainly not varied, but it's blunt enough in its play to give anyone who sticks with it a tasty, filling snack.

Bounty Rush is a simple game, and it delivers a simple thrill. That thrill doesn't last for long, sure, but it's still worth taking some time out of your day to sample it.

Bounty Rush

A charming quick-blast arcade challenge, Bounty Rush serves a purpose, but don't expect it to do much else
