Space, as Christopher Nolan's uneven blockbuster Interstellar rammed home, is a vast and mysterious place.

Bob's Space Adventure might be set in outer space, but in many ways it's as claustrophobic and obvious as they come.

Twin (stick) galaxies

This twin-stick shooter has you, as hapless space-janitor Bob, fending off waves of alien attacks and asteroid storms with your laser gun.

You move our oversized protagonist around the single static screen using a left-hand virtual stick. Your jetpack has limited fuel that must be replenished towards the end of each wave.

Move off the screen and you'll reappear at the opposite end (in a slightly glitchy fashion). I dunno, put it down to black holes or Matthew McConaughey or something.

The right-hand virtual stick, meanwhile, controls the direction of your laser fire.

Shooting stars

From a pretty uninspired set of controls stems a pretty uninspired game. You simply keep shooting enemies until you take a hit and die.

There's a similarly familiar power-up system that requires lots of grinding in order to be able to afford the sky-high fee. You'll need to grind even more to be able to afford a new gun other than the default pea shooter.

Of course, you could always make an in-app purchase and shortcut the procedure, which is precisely what the game wants you to do.

It's probably not worth it, though. Bob's Space Adventure is a moderately entertaining, retro-inflected twin-stick shooter, but it lacks any form of stand-out feature.

Bob's Space Adventure

A perfunctory twin-stick shooter that plays just fine, but fails to do anything of particular note
