New iOS and Android games out this week - June 22
Sega Forever games, The Little Acre, Age of Rivals and more
Welcome back to our weekly feature rounding up the newest games on the App Store and Google Play Store.
The most interesting mobile game news of the week turns out to be about a bunch of old console games. Sega just launched its Sega Forever subscription service, providing a Netflix-like experience for its console classics.
There's some other interesting stuff out too, even if retro console games aren't your thing.
Have you been playing anything else new this week? Do share with the rest of us in the comments below.
Altered BeastBy Sega - download on iOS / download on Android
Altered Beast hasn't aged half as gracefully as Sonic or many other Sega classics, but nostalgia cares not for reason. Rise from Your Grave!
Comix ZoneBy Sega - download on iOS / download on Android
One of Sega's weirdly ambitious diversions, Comix Zone is an arcade beat-'em-up with a strong comic book art style.
Kid ChameleonBy Sega - download on iOS / download on Android
Kid Chameleon was Sega's weirdo platformer ying to Sonic's mainstream platformer yang, featuring a character who could transform into a samurai, a rhino, and even an axe maniac.
Phantasy Star IIBy Sega - download on iOS / download on Android
Sega's Phantasy Star series is highly revered and sadly missed by a certain generation of gamers. Phantasy Star II's epic world and plot are far more overtly sci-fi than the average JRPG of the time.
Sonic The HedgehogBy Sega - download on iOS
Yes, Sonic was on mobile before. But this new Sega Forever edition is free and apparently fully optimised for the platform.
The Little AcreBy Curve Digital - buy on iOS
Charming point-and-click adventures aren't exactly rare on mobile, thank Gilbert, but we're still excited about The Little Acre coming to mobile. Expect hand-drawn visuals, a beautiful score, and a unique setting.
Carrier DeckBy Slitherine - buy on iOS
Hardcore strategy master Slitherine returns with a time management game, of all things. Mind you, it is set on a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered supercarrier. As you were.
Age of RivalsBy Roboto Games - buy on iOS / buy on Android
A digital boardgame that describes itself as an anti deck-building CCG, which means you'll need to be far more adaptable than in the likes of Magic and Hearthstone.
Race KingsBy Hutch Games - download on iOS / download on Android
The latest game from Smash Cops developer Hutch Games looks to be a twist on the CSR approach to multiplayer racing, but with the emphasis on extreme drifting rather than drag racing.
TouchdownersBy Colin Lane Games - download on iOS
You like Wrassling? Dunkers? How about Battle Golf? Golf Zero? Of course you do. Touchdowners is by the same developer, and it looks like an American Football version of Dunkers.
Dark BeyondBy Oliver Papp - download on iOS
Dark Beyond gives you a bunch of pretty coloured circles, all drawn together by gravity. It appears you need to destroy these and form combos.
Flick Champions Extreme SportsBy Nawia Games - download on iOS / download on Android
Nawia Games has been turning out fun casual sports games for years now, but the latest Flick Champions turns extreme. Think parkour, wingsuit, climbing and, er, paintball.
StarsceptreBy Richard Morgan - buy on iOS
An old-skool shmup with novel tilty directional controls and - yes - manual shooting.
The Mummy Dark Universe StoriesBy Night School Studios - download on iOS / download on Android
This movie tie-in looks way more interesting than the Tom Cruise vehicle it's attached to. The developer of Oxenfree has used these raw materials to make a narrative adventure game.
Panthera FrontierBy Ayopa Games - buy on iOS
Panthera Frontier is an FTL-like spaceship survival game where you must manage crew members, maintain systems and improve your ship. It's got nothing to do with Thundercats or heavy metal. At least, I don't think it does.
Mystic Guardian : Final QuestBy Buff Studio - download on iOS
Got a hankering for some '90s JRPG grinding? You might be interested in Buff Studio's five-years-in-the-making love letter to spiky hair, large swords, and hit points.
