There are more match-three puzzlers on the App Store than there are animals in the world. If Steve Jobs decided, like the murderous God of Christian theology, to purge them all in a flood save for one breeding pair, he could do worse than save quintessential panic-inducing cross-platform super-puzzler Bejeweled 2.
If you don't already own a copy, you should, and if you do you should check the App Store now because PopCap has just made an update available.
Version 1.3 augments Blitz mode – easily the best of Bejeweled 2's four modes – with 'coin gems'. Whenever you make a line containing one of these, you get to keep the coin. You can then use the coins you've accumulated to buy various boosts, thus letting you score more heavily.
You need to be logged in to Facebook on your iPhone or iPod touch to buy boosts, and the first time you play you get a 5,000 coin bonus.
The Bejeweled 2 1.3 update also comes with improved iOS 4 compatibility and miscellaneous tweaks. The game costs £1.79 / $2.99.
