We were mighty impressed by Galcon’s first game, deliciously titled Galcon, with it’s simple gameplay and deep strategising. So we’ve been keeping a close eye on the developer to see what happens next, and a little known retro conversion has turned out to be the next game off the production line.

Beast was an old MS-DOS text-mode puzzle game, though designer Phil Hassey has given the iPhone translation a sparkling new Geometry Wars-style makeover. The game involves trapping the invading Beasts between two blocks, by pushing them around using your avatar.

He’s also included some abstract creature designs based on some unique creature sculptures by an American company called Bungled Jungle (check out its portfolio here), which really give Beast an endearing glow and help it live up to its name.

Beast is already on the App Store and only weighs in at an un-monstrous 59p. Check out the developer’s blog video below, then hit the ‘Buy It!’ button to head over to the App Store for a closer look.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
