Astronaut: Spacewalk will show iPhone owners what really happens in space

While there are countless space games on Apple's iOS platform, there aren't many that explore the realities of what it means to be an astronaut.

Indie dev Jorge Hernandez is looking to rectify this with his upcoming "simulator", which eschews laser fire and Zargon warfleets in favour of tech repairs and oxygen management.

According to Hernandez, who came up with the concept two years ago, Astronaut: Spacewalk puts you in control of a Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) - the same booster-controlled suit used on actual NASA shuttle missions.

Out of space

The game will feature 20 missions, with some of the objectives involving reaching satellites and performing repairs before your suit's air supply and fuel runs out.

Though the project is still three weeks away from completion, we have to say that the screenshots do look rather handsome.

We'll let you know when Astronaut: Spacewalk is ready to dock on the App Store.
