5 games to play after Asphalt 9: Legends
Fed up of always crashing in the same car?
Asphalt 9: Legends is out now on iOS and Android, and it's tearing up the charts like nobody's business.
It's not hard to see why. This is one of the slickest, best-looking, and most intuitive arcade racers we've ever seen on mobile. But it's not the only one, and it's worth considering the alternatives
As marvellous as it is, there'll come a time when you're done with Asphalt 9. Maybe you'll exhaust its content, or perhaps you'll hit that invisible freemium wall and bounce off hard.
Whatever the reason, here are five brilliant arcade racers to play after you're done with Asphalt 9: Legends.
1
GRID Autosport
GRID Autosport is easily the best pure racing game on iOS, both technically and in terms of the sheer level of premium content. It's essentially a full console racer brought to mobile with no compromises.
Does it have the immediate thrill or arcade intuitiveness that Asphalt 9 provides? No. You'll have to work a little harder for your thrills here.
But if Asphalt 9 has started you off on a mobile racing game journey, GRID Autosport is the ultimate destination.
2
Gear.Club
There's a yawning gap in intention and execution between Asphalt 9 and GRID Autosport, not to mention up front price. If that gap is too wide to bridge, consider Gear.Club as the half way point.
This is another Console-style racer with sim pretensions, but it's free to play, has brief bite-sized races, and can be engaged with regardless of your racing ability.
It's another beautiful racer from a developer with genuine console pedigree, but it's one that's friendly to a mobile audience.
3
Need for Speed: No Limits
So far we've talked about games that take the next step up in terms of depth and realism. What if the thing you like about Asphalt 9 is its big dumb arcadeyness?
In that case we'd direct your attention to Need for Speed: No Limits. It's not quite as pretty as Asphalt 9, but it offers a similarly high octane brand of automotive hooliganism.
There isn't the same option to have the game play itself, but the controls and handling are still incredibly simple.
4
CSR Racing 2
Maybe the thing you like about Asphalt 9 is the super-simple controls, where you don't have to worry about steering and braking points. Maybe you like being able to admire the pretty cars and neon-soaked scenery without having to fix your gaze on the horizon.
In that case, CSR 2 would be a great next step. This arcade drag racers asks you to focus on timing your gear shifts in a range of thrilling straight-line dashes.
What's more, CSR 2's cars are stunningly rendered and super-shiny. It really is a handsome game to behold.
5
Riptide GP: Renegade
Perhaps you like the crazy, slightly fantastical edge to Asphalt 9's racing. Want to crank up the fantasy element whilst retaining the arcade racing and ace graphics?
Riptide GP: Renegade could be the perfect game for you. It's a futuristic arcade racer that takes it to the river - and other assorted waterways.
This stunt-filled jet ski racer looks even better than it plays.
