Art of Fighting 2, a 2D fighting game from days long past, gets a modernised re-release courtesy of the ACA NeoGeo Collection
In the latest addition to the ever-growing collection of classic games remastered for the modern mobile device, Art of Fighting 2 has officially launched courtesy of the ACA NeoGeo Collection. This old style footsies based fighting game takes heavy inspiration from the martial arts movies of yore and wears that style proudly with small but stylish combos and a grounded reality sense of aesthetics.
The Art of Fighting series was one of SNK’s much less popular franchises within their vast library of fighting games. It's not quite as successful as something like King of Fighters or Samurai Shodown, but these were still pretty popular amongst oldheads who hung out at arcade cabinets constantly looking for games to beat the snot out of their friends in.
Mechanically speaking, The Art of Fighting 2 is pretty simplistic if you’ve played any other standard fighters in this genre. It’s not super anime-adjacent like King of Fighters, and it’s not as punishing or intense as Samurai Shodown’s 2-3 hit battles. Instead, this is much like the classic Street Fighter games in the sense that you do have a super meter that will allow you to do some flashy moves, but overall, combos are typically 5-6 hit deals and you’re mostly backstepping and dashing in to poke your opponent until you see an opening.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as if you’re a fan of those classic fighting games, you’ll likely dig this one. It's even better if you grew up alongside Jackie Chan movies and the like, as Art of Fighting is all about that sort of vibe, with each character being absolutely ripped and sporting some traditional martial arts arena garb.
If you’d like to give The Art of Fighting 2 a go yourself, you can check it out at either link below for only $3.99. In the meantime, check out the rest of the ACA NeoGeo Library for a full look at other classic SNK games that have been modernised for the pocket gaming era.
