Arcade Ice claims to be inspired by retro platformers, but I don't buy it. It's got Super Meat Boy written all over it, which itself was influenced by the classics.

So I guess in a roundabout way it is. Fine.

What we've got here is a block of ice that's trying to make it safely to the North Pole, without melting on the way. You'll jump over obstacles and collect ice to keep you cool.

We let the App Army loose on Arcade Ice, and here's what they had to say.

I think the music is quite boring, the controls could be better, and it's not very good looking.

Even though I've just begun, I find it very repetitive.

Kainen Ryan

Well I can see the comparisons to Super Meat Boy, but there's a serious lack of variety here.

It does have some nice touches but by the middle of the second stage I got bored.

Roy Blanche

Not a great game to be honest. It's incredibly repetitive with zero replay value. I deleted it after the fourth stage.

Mike Lisagor

Like the others, I found the game too bland, and I'm not sure what you can and can't jump on. We need more traditional platformers.

Linh Nguyen

This game is good. I like the retro visuals, but there isn't enough differentiation between the background and the obstacles.

Sandro Guascone

Boring gameplay, annoying music, and the graphics are a bit of a mess. It's too hard to separate the background and foreground. This causes lots of unnecessary mistakes.

Joseph Mark Maceiko

This game reminds me of Geometry Dash, though not quite as well designed. It's full of bugs and the controls are too fiddly. This type of game requires precise controls, but the character regularly refused to jump.

I also don't like the graphics. They're retro, which is fine, but it's difficult to tell what you can jump on, since the background blends with the foreground too much. The music gets monotonous quickly too.

Overall, the game has a solid concept and is challenging. You'll die often. However, the controls and glitches keep me from recommending the game.
